Jonny Craig “Blue Print For Going In Circles” First Listen
Who: Jonny Craig
Song: Untitled (Possible Title: I’m Still Here)
Written By - Randall
Why You’ll Love This: Well it’s here, the first listen of the upcoming album from the one and only Johnathan Monroe Craig. While this is still an untitled demo it gives an insight to the tone and sound of what may be headed our way from Jonny’s forthcoming, “Blue Print For Going In Circles” that is scheduled to drop early this year.
It’s no secret that there are few figures in modern music as polarizing as Jonny. From his infamous Macbook incident to his multiple stints in rehab, this is a man who many people have written off, even begun to hate. Still, love him or loathe him, there are few singers on the planet with a voice that captures the soul of pure imagination like him. Sounding more introspective than ever here, this song seems to capture the sense that Jonny has finally realized that he quickly running out of chances.
Sure cutting corners and placing blame will give you the badass persona that he has, but this song seems to show a humbled, tired, dare I say it… matured Jonny Craig. The stripped down vocals, the simple strum of the guitars, even his lyrics show a definite realization that he has got to get his act together or risk wasting his incomparable talent.
In just this song, he takes on his familiar struggled with getting off of drugs:
It’s the things that make me old
Still I’m still here
It’s the things that make cold
Yet, I’m still here…
This bullshit isn’t worth my life
This bullshit isn’t worth my life
And I know, no matter what it says I’m homeThe pain of knowing that he still has such a long road ahead of him:
I know I’m home, getting out of reach
Still I sob away to know I’m just okay.Even a feeling that he hasn’t lived up to his massive potential:
I’ve reached out, made plans to put these words in motion
But still I fall shortOverall it feels like Jonny is trying to say that he still has the pain, he still has the agony in his ecstasy-riddled vocals, but he wants to be a better man. I think this is Jonny’s way of saying sorry in his own Jonny Craig way.
What this 4 minute and 21 second demo shows is more profound than any follower of Jonny could believe, the man we all want to be acknowledged as the greatest singer on this planet finally seems to be coming around. Will he still be Jonny? Of course, that part of him we love isn’t going anywhere. But maybe, just maybe we’ll see a stronger, a more resilient - maybe even a better version of the man who’s voice we adore than we’ve ever seen before.

Why You’ll Love This: Somewhere my little brother is laughing like Doctor Evil. The twink told to check out this girl named “Christina Grimmie” because she had a - as he put it - “deliciously good voice.” Me, the older tyrannical brother that gave him wet willies and told him that Santa Claus was dead didn’t want to give him the time of day. I thought, My brother likes her, how good can she be? To answer my own absurd question, very very good.
Christina Grimmie is the best unsigned singer in America. I make no qualms about this and I pull no punches. She’s the best, the very best, the pinnacle of brilliant indie music-making. You want to argue with me? Bring it, who else do you got? … I’m waiting.
…
While you try to get your inner hipster on by declaring my idiocy take some time to give her tunage a listen. You’ve gotta be some kinda stupid not to be floored by this. Having built a powerfully loyal fanbase on the swirly-storm of youtube she is indefatigably the princess of contemporary pop covers. You may call covering the songs of others cheap, I’d call it genius. She proves it by turning the Nelly song, “Just A Dream” into a pop-ballad anthem of love desired and passion lost, crafted and weaved with the fabric of Generation Y understanding.
Her voice is snappy brilliance personified. From Marlton, New Jersey this seventeen year-old is better than most of the supposed “superstars” she covers. Taking cues from every good element of pop and r&B, her voice bounces in and out of a kaleidoscope unfettered by the drek of modern music making. This song, a duet with the highly skilled singer Sam Tsui, shows just how good she is; her blending, her runs, her upper register, it’s all golden-noted luminescence. She soars, if not literally in every figurative way. Her high notes are a fantastically pretty as anything you will ever hear, silky, shiny, and shimmering with each note change. Like I told you, she’s absolutely game-changing.
Forgive me if I’m a bit overzealous and fan-boyish here, I’m a new fan trying to get his bearings here. It’s like trying chocolate for the first time, your senses are just so overwhelmed that all you can do is sing praises to the rafters. I said it earlier, I’ll say it again, she’s the best unsigned singer in America and the reason I make such a claim is simple: She’s better than Miley, better than Selena, she’s better than Demi on her best day. Anyone who says otherwise is either, deluded, jealous, or both. I also don’t think she’s unsigned for lack of options, I think she’s off-label because she wants to make music that matters. Take some time away from your Bieber-isms and listening to the factory-produced mayhem made by flavors of the week and give her chance!
This girl - this artist - is a rare talent, a skyward comet flashing through our turbulent time that you’ll miss if you blink too long. Put your labels away and screw the stereotypes that surround you, if you love amazing music by incredible vocalists you must give her a listen. If she blows your mind half as much as it destroyed mine, it’ll be well worth your time.

Dallas Green Essentials Part 3
Song: Sam Malone - Recorded with City and Colour
I’m going to start off by saying that Dallas Green wrote this song when he was a teenager. That being said, I am in such a jealous rage right now that I could tear down this roof I hide under every night. Dallas Green has talent, such unimaginable talent that it must be broadcasted upon the televisions of the masses.
Sam Malone embodies some of Dallas Green’s actual knowledge of the fret board, with the gently laid uses of harmonics throughout, amongst the many other things used in this song. He isn’t known for being the best at guitar, but he certainly gives his soul to it as if it were the ghost of a past lover who returns every night to utter the simple words of love.
As always, it is hard to determine the most shining quality of this song, as it is a tossup between the beautifully written lyrics and the majestic quality of Dallas’s voice throughout the song. It is the mirror image to how I feel at this exact moment and time, along with another moment in time, and as Dallas utters the words “Do you honestly think I would call just to hear you breathe” I am reminded of truly the pains and betrayals of love before me. He leaves me sympathized to his heart and yet I feel like his heart truly is my heart, a soul melded down a road unknown.
If you can’t find worlds of beauty in this song, I have no faith in your soul, and though that may sound harsh, it just is the driving point I make to show you how positive this song, so youthfully written, will effect your lives, if only for 5 minutes. - Andrew

Who: The Indigo Children
Song: Home

Why You Should Love Them: While falling down the rabbit hole we like to call youtube, I ran a crossed this band. With a refreshing sound and interesting lyrics I wanted to know more. I soon learned that this unsigned band is made up of 4 guys from Melborne, Australia. Having just released their debut album “New Light” on itunes this is a band we worth keeping tabs on.
The song I instantly fell in love with, is Home. It takes a cliche phrase, Home is where the heart is, and turns that into a song that isn’t easily forgotten. With a softer rock sound found in the elegant drumming and understated guitar, this band subtly pulls all of the pieces of the puzzle together and creates a sound that flows and has a trancelike effect.
Needless to say I freaking love this group and can’t wait to see more of them. Check them out and I hope you get as much enjoyment out of them as I have.

Song: Means To Believe
If the blind can see you
And the lame can meet you
Will the dead embrace you if you never gave them the means to believe?

Will I embrace you?
Will you ever give me the means to believe?
And some need… please. -

Who: August Burns Red
Song: Salt And Light
I am the harbinger, not the author of these timeless words.
Led by the Comforter I sing to you.
And if my throat were to be cut from ear to ear, I hope that these words
would carry on in these songs that I pray you sing one day.
We sing for you.
We sing for you.
